Kolkata, Sep 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) A man from Purulia district was arrested in a cyber fraud case, the police said on Thursday.
It was learnt that out of the Rs 82 lakh of the fraud, Rs 40 lakh had entered the account of the accused Shyamal Baran Sahis, a resident of Dhadka village under Bandwan police station in Purulia.
After arresting him and interrogating him in custody, the police got a clue about the cyber fraud ring.
Apart from Shyamal, the police have arrested five more people on charges of involvement in this cyber fraud incident. Two of them are residents of Jharkhand. The police have come to know that they were running this ring by renting a house in Purulia city. They were produced in the Purulia court, where the police applied for their custody for further investigation.
According to the police, the investigators are conducting a special operation to curb cybercrime. In this, the police are registering suo motu cases at various places. The police have registered two such cases at the Purulia Cyber Crime Police Station.
During the investigation, the police identified 217 bank accounts and some ATM counters. Later, the police were surprised when they checked the bank account. The police found that Rs 40 lakh had been deposited in the bank account of Shyamal Baran Sahis. After questioning him, the police arrested five more people. Among them are Ankit Singh, a civil engineer of a private company and a resident of Purulia city, and his brother.
The police also arrested two residents of Jharkhand and a young man named Rocky Bauri, a resident of the Para police station area of Purulia.
The police also learned that they used to rent bank accounts and ATM cards by luring local youths in Purulia city by paying house rent. A district police officer said, "The arrested are being interrogated in custody on charges of involvement in cyber fraud. The officers are also looking for those who are involved in this gang."
